1. Are you an Essential Worker?
Not a concept that exists in any of the UK regulations I think. However, it is not essential for me to leave my home to do my job. So I am not doing so.
2. How many drinks have you had since the quarantine started?
Some. I bought a case of 24 small beers from Fallen Brewery a few weeks ago. I have a few of those left but I know I've also started two 4-packs of other beer. MLW has had some beer. So, say, 30 small beers since quarantine began max. Plus a couple of bottles of wine between us and I've had a cocktail and two glasses of Scotch.
3. If you have kids... Are they driving you nuts?
My son is being very well behaved considering. He is on Easter holidays and hanging out with two of his best friends on the chat channel of a PS4 game that they play. My grown up daughter is doing something interesting for the government so she is making me proud.
4. What new hobby have you taken up during this?
Other than amatuer epidemeology as a spectator sport; none. I have a full time job, so does MLW (sort of at the moment) and a child at home. There isn't really time for new hobbies. But if there were it would designign RPG game settings and making maps.
5. How many grocery runs have you done?
About 6 between us.
6. What are you spending your stimulus check on?
Not a concept that exists in the UK.
7. Do you have any special occasions that you will miss during this quarantine?
My uncle Dave's funeral.
8. Are you keeping your housework done?
We are blitzing the house fortnightly as our cleaner can't come. The house is not as clean as it usually is.
9. What movies have you watched during this quarantine?
Movies, Guardians of the Galaxy Parts 1 and 2, Jumani Parts 1 and 2. Theatre, One Man Two Guvnors from the National Theatre and the begining (so far) of the Globe's Hamlet. Audiobooks - the I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue Christmas Carol - farewell Tim Brooke-Taylor.
10. What are you streaming with?
iPlayer, Netflix, Prime, Disney+ Audible, C4.
11. 9 months from now is there any chance of you having a baby?
Unlikely for all sorts of reasons. The most realistic route to us having a baby in our care in 9 months is that we stand loco parentis to an orphan.
12. What's your go-to quarantine meal?
Roast Chicken.
13. Is this whole situation making you paranoid?
Not at all. It's a bit vexing that the symptoms of a mild case of this particular coronavirus are hard to tell apart from several other coronaviruses, other similar diseases or just the effect of sleeping badly, sitting still all day and drinking too little water. It's making my paranoid about the state of the 21st Century Conservative Party. Perhaps not paranoid, perhaps they are out to get us. They have been most centuries since the 18th Century.
14. Has your internet gone out on you during this time?
No, it's been fine.
15. What month do you predict this all ends?
Which year? Define end. There is no end, merely a new normal. My guess is in the UK close quaratine lasts until August, the roll out of restriction lifting starts in July. We have suite of workable vaccines, treatments and mitigations in place by the end of 2022.
16. First thing you’re gonna do when you get off quarantine?
Take my dad for a pint or coach my P5 (by then P6) rugby team.
17. Where do you wish you were right now?
I might be happier in Coldingham. Depends a bit. Here is good.
18. What free-from-quarantine activity are you missing the most?
Drama.
19. Have you run out of toilet paper and hand sanitizer?
No, also we have soap.
20. Do you have enough food to last a month?
Absolutely.
Not a concept that exists in any of the UK regulations I think. However, it is not essential for me to leave my home to do my job. So I am not doing so.

Date: 2020-04-15 01:41 pm (UTC)I am not sure that I trust myself enough when assessing the Conservative Party to tell if this tendency to believe the worst of them is grouned in reality or paranoia.

Date: 2020-04-15 01:56 pm (UTC)And the election slogan, "We had to sacrifice Granny, in the national interest" has some genuine appeal to some people.

Date: 2020-04-15 02:01 pm (UTC)I disagree with that last on any meaningful scale. I think if people's responses to this show anything, they show that people who are close to Granny will prioritise her interests above any bigger picture of common welfare.

Date: 2020-04-15 02:21 pm (UTC)We are weeks in to a situation that is going to last years.
And elderly grandmothers in care homes are begining to die in large numbers, partly as a result of a lack of PPE and testing and earlier stingy government policy on sick pay and zero hours contracts and so far the response from many people has been to demand that other people stop asking the government awkward questions because Boris is doing his best in difficult circumstances.
And 10 years of austerity economics and election results in 2010, 2015, 2017 and 2019 show me that lots of people are quite delighted to accept the line that vulnerable people should be sacrificed in the national interest.
Perhaps not as acutely as the current situation demands but sacrificed by inches.
