I wish that were true, or that I believed it to be true.
We are weeks in to a situation that is going to last years.
And elderly grandmothers in care homes are begining to die in large numbers, partly as a result of a lack of PPE and testing and earlier stingy government policy on sick pay and zero hours contracts and so far the response from many people has been to demand that other people stop asking the government awkward questions because Boris is doing his best in difficult circumstances.
And 10 years of austerity economics and election results in 2010, 2015, 2017 and 2019 show me that lots of people are quite delighted to accept the line that vulnerable people should be sacrificed in the national interest.
Perhaps not as acutely as the current situation demands but sacrificed by inches.
