There are questions. There are answers. They may not be the answers to the questions.

How old are you?
I was 21 years when I wrote this song, I'm 43 now but I won't be for long.

Tattoos?

No, never, not on me. To be honest, not really on you either.

But if I did, it would a leaf, turning from green to brown.

Ever hit a deer?

Not in a fair fight. He brought a knife, I brought a gun. He put one of mine in the hospital. I put one of his in the morgue. That's the Chicago way and *that's* how you get Bambi's mother.

I was once in a car driven by My Lovely Wife which was following some other cars along the A87 I think on a dark and stormy night. The leading car spooked some deer, they saw the second car and panicked a bit more and nearly ran in front of us. Two days later we watched someone else hit a deer. Man, those deer are stupid.

Ridden in an ambulance?

Nope, see answer above about the deer.

Sang karaoke?

I am banned from singing in public in all of the historic counties of Scotland, all of the States of Australia except Western Australia, and the four proud provinces of Ireland.

Ice skated?

I have, but weirdly I used to have a friend who used to skate up to couples who were snogging on the ice and join in. I say friend, I mean someone who followed me around. He was certainly less cool than my next door neighbour when I was 8 who had ice skated along frozen canals in the winter of 1944 carrying messages for the Dutch resistance. He was pretending to practice for some races but really he was moving messages, and maybe guns, up and down the canal network. He'd be given the message and some instruction and he'd be on his own, dodging Nazis at what 12, 13. It was dark, he looked around, and the sky was a hazy shade of winter.

I'm not a great lover of ice skating. I do it so rarely that I usually spend the first hour slip sliding away all over the place. I have wide feet and struggle to get skates to fit. They can really hurt and in the worst cases the pain lasts for days. I have had two broken bones in my feet in the past (not from skating) and I have fallen arches. Having my feet squeezed in to badly fitting skates is not for me.
Ridden a motorcycle?

I've had a few rides on the back of a mate's motorbike and I quite fancy the idea of learning to ride one. It will go well with my Indiania Jones based LARPing character Nova Scotia Smith. Take off down on a motorbike counting the cars on the New Jersey turnpike, looking for America, .

Stayed in hospital?

Not as the result of me receiving medical treatment. However, both my children had approximately 36 hour labours and I was there for the whole thing. Two of the happiest days of my life. I love my children.

I've also stayed in a hospital as part of the emergency provision for a cyclone hitting my home town of Townsville. That's when you discover that a good day, ain't got no rain.

Skipped school?

No I don't think so. Well not at most schools I went to. For a brief period in Townsville I was at a very bad school and no one seemed to notice or care if I was there or not. I used to have a lairy mates, Julio, and he and I would disappear down by the school yard.

Last phone call?

I honestly can't remember the last phone call I had. I think it was in the early morning hours, when I fell in to the phone call. So it was probably with my mother who wanted to talk with me about my uncle Dave.

Last text from?

My dad, offering to bring some beer to dinner tonight and to tell me about my Uncle Dave.

Watched someone die?

Not the actual moment of their death, but certainly some of the process of them changing from being alive to becoming dead and the process of them slowly working out that soon they will be dying.

Pepsi or Coke?

I don't care, it makes no difference to me. I prefer Doctor Pepper. In fact I actively refuse to have an opinion on which marketing campaign I will allow to hijiack my tastebuds. Fuck Pepsi and Coke and capitalism generally.

Favourite pie?

American Pie!

Depends a bit here on whether we are talking about sweet or savoury pie and whether we are talking about hot pie or cold pie.

Hot sweet pie would treacle tart.

Cold sweet pie would be banoffee pie, or perhaps Tarte Tatin if I'm feeling all posh and sophisticaed.

Hot savoury pie, steak and kidney pie. I'm agnostic on whether the pastry should go all around the hot pie.

Cold savoury pie - a pork pie with a little bit of pickle in the top.

Favourite pizza?

I like a pizza with plenty of meat on it or, the Cypriot, halloumi, black olives, anchovies, capers and, on holy days, the faithful may add an egg.

Favourite season?

Depends where about in the world I am.

On the north east coast of Scotland I like the period of cold, dry weather with clear frost sparkled skies. On the north east coast of Austalia I disliked the Wet. Too muggy.

Australian Aboriginals from the Northern Territory have about 25 seasons based on what food is available and what the weather conditions are actually like.

So, I like a Scottish dry winter or an gentle Scottish summer or the Dry in the Top End.

Broken bones?

Hilariously yes. Firstly, that bastard deer. Secondly, my thumb whilst ski-ing with my mum. That's my mum the consultant radiologist. Who told me it wasn't broken and only took me for an X-Ray after two weeks when the swelling still hadn't gone down. When the weather changes my thumb hurts.

Also, small bones in my feet from running too much.

Received a ticket?

For a traffic offence, no. For a show, yes.

Favourite colour?

Of the main colours I like yellow. I'm a fan of russet or burnt umbre. Autumnal tones - when the leaves that are green turn to brown.

Sunset or sunrise?

They are very different experiences. I like watching the sunset with a sundowner. I like the experience of being up and out early to watch the sunrise. Just taking a moment to slow down, not move too fast and make the morning last. Of the two I think I prefer the sunset.

You've really thought hard about the pie question.
