1. Do you suffer from Spring Fever?

I have never suffered from Spring Fever.

In fact I've never suffered from any named Fevers. Not Hay Fever, Ross River Fever, Q Fever, Valley Fever or Saturday Night Fever

2. Have you ever been twitterpated (infatuated or obsessed. In a state of nervous excitement)?

I rarely get in to a state of nervous excitement. I tend to be fairly cool and collected under pressure - or I have a complete nervous breakdown.

3. What does Spring taste like to you?

Like a fine Cuban cigar, hand rolled on the thighs of virgins and moisted shut with Claudia Schiffer's pussy juice.

Or warm tarmac.

4. When was the last time you visited an ice cream truck?

Last summer at the Brough of Birsay, which is an Iron Age site on Orkney on a small island which is accessible at low tide by a causeway. Seals, crabs, fish, puffins, Viking remains and the HMS Hampshire monument can all be seen. There is an ice cream van there that does excellent bacon and black pudding rolls. I recommend the place and the van heartily.

5. Do you know what song your ice cream truck plays?

I do not. I don't know that I actually have a local ice cream truck (or van). The nearest one is at the Big Park at the east end of the Meadows but that's a static van so I don't know if it has a tune.

I know more than I care to about Edinburgh City Counci's rules on ice cream van tunes and ice cream vans generally re noise pollution and conservation and heritage zones because of the food van that was parked outside my flat for a year.

1) I had the day off yesterday and spent it at the cottage doing a bit of gardening and light maintenance ahead of the summer high season. A very pleasant day, warm, hot even, and sunny. I'm a little sunburnt perhaps. Certainly the best day so far this year to take off and spend outside. Got all the jobs done quickly and efficiently and spent a nice day with MLW. The village and the cottage were looking very pretty in the sunshine.

2) Home from the cottage for an unexpected coffee with my oldest friend, unexpectedly in Edinburgh for a work conference. Sat outside in the sun. Had a coffee and chat. He seems a little jaded. I think he's working too hard.

3) Then off to touch rugby. 7-a-side this week which is a good number. I was exhausted after last weeks 4-a-side. Scored a try which was nice. Played okay, thought the fitness was a bit better. Managed not to have to go to the full planning meeting for the mini-tournament at the end of the month so got home two hours earlier than I expected.

4) I am looking forward to the weekend which will involve football and rugby with the Captain and not much else. MLW is giving her TED talk on Sunday so the Captain and I are flying solo. I can see us watching some films on TV after rugby but I shall see if I can persuade him to play some board games or even to go outside with me.

5) The Captain walked to school on his own for the first time on Thursday. He's been aggitating for this for some time. His good friend J walks to school on his own (his GFJ lives next to the school and has a younger brother who goes to the same school so what actually happens is that GFJ runs ahead of his mum or dad but never let the facts get in the way of a good story. Anyhow, the Captain walked himself to school with me following discreetely 50 meters behind. He did very well, checking carefully at all the right places, keeping up a good pace, not getting lost. I'm sure he will be fine but MLW is concerned that if we let him walk to school on his own in P3 we will be shunned by the other parents and reported to social services. I say, let them take him if they can. Also, the walk to school is when you find out what is going on at school. He'll be put through a few more tests and I expect P4 will see him walking to school on his own.
