That's a lovely tribute, he sounds like a remarkable man. My high school history teacher was a similar character, I've always been sad that he died suddenly when I was in the second year of my undergrad and I could only dedicate my PhD thesis to his memory rather than going and telling him in person how the skills he taught me allowed me to persevere through the toughest four years of my life.
