Five things on a Friday

1) We started rehearsals for Skirt on Thursday. A whole cast read through of the play. It runs at about 1 hour 20 minutes. It's a very, very expllicitely political play. I mean it talks about politics directly, the characters argue about politics and at the same time it demonstrates the politics. I like it. I think it will stronger once we've worked with it a bit. There are some nice funny bits and some genuinely upsetting and moving bits. I have some good funny lines. I have a few pals in the cast and so far no one has been difficult - so that bodes well. The show runs in the first week of the Fringe a the Royal Scots Club. It will be nice to be back on stage.

2) My dad has bought a BBQ so the men folk of my family will be enjoying some charred meat and beer on Sunday. The women folk are off on some jaunt to Fife to sing in a picturesque fishing village in the East Neuk. So whilst she is creating beauty I shall be slaving over a hot bed of charcoal and savering the delicious goodness of beer. My brothers hillarious attempts to persude my dad to buy a gas BBQ caused much mirth as he persisted in failing to understand why my dad might not want to spend £700 on a machine he might use twice a year when he could spend £30 instead. I am contemplating marinading some lamb and BBQ it rustic style. I think that might be nice. I shall take some board games and we can hang out and listen to the cricket whilst we stuff ourselves in to a meat coma. (I think the Captain is growing and I want to make sure he gets plenty of nutriment.)

3) It is the Meadows Festival this weekend, so who knows what random assortment of bric-a-brak stalls and campaigns will pitch their tent over the weekend whilst I try to buy beer in the beer tent and avoid the fun fair. The fun fair is being very responsible this year and closing down at 10pm - which is fine if still more noisy that I'd like. However, you can't live next to a large public park and complain that the public use it. There is usually some music and some interesting things to see. It's good fun, mostly because we get to bump in to all of the Captain's friends.

4) I have some spare time this weekend so I shall be trying to sew my own cloth Tak board. One of my pals at work has made one and it looks fab and seemed pretty straight-forward so I'll be getting the sewing machine out and printing some transfer prints. I'll also be making the solid board to go with my rustic wooden set whilst I wait for me glasses cleaning cloth printed board to arrive. I think once that's done they'll be a break from making Tak sets until after my sister visits. I do have to get some additional beads from the bead shop to finish off the 3d Printed set. And some extra coasters for Less sets.

5) I have just submitted my nomination forms for the Unlock Democracy Council elections. I hope to be re-elected to Council and then to continue as Co-Chair for another two year term. As always, these things are in the gift of the electorate (including those who could be part of the electorate but chose not to be).
