1) I watched Thor: Ragnarok with BB one evening. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. It was very funny and enjoyable. I'd not thought of myself as a great watcher of super hero films. I may revise my opinion of super hero films. I think BB is keen to take advantage of the entertainment on offer at Chez Meadow, so I might chum her along for a few more films whilst she is up for her Easter holiday.
2) It was parent teacher evening at the Captain's school. He's doing really well, he concentrates well in class, helps other children, is quietly confident, works hard at the things he's not good at, and is considered a good role model. He also progressed another level in judo to 2nd Mon which comes with a rather fetching red belt. We're very proud of him.
3) My family went home, all looking and feeling much better - which is good. Bluebird stays one for a few weeks and we are joined by the daughter of a friend from the States who is thinking of going to college in the UK.
4) This week marks the third wedding anniversary of mountainkiss and MFJ and also my wife's singing buddy N and her husband. MLW and went to both weddings which involved us in a midnight dash across the south of England from N's wedding to mountainkiss'. We left a bit later than planned, hit some road works on the way and ended up arriving at the venue very late and spent about an hour wondering round a country house in the dark looking for someone to show us to our room. MLW and I have rarely had so much fun at a wedding.
5) This weekend's entertainment is a tour of Murrayfield.

Date: 2018-03-24 03:45 pm (UTC)I do recommend other films from this director though. Particularly "What we do in the shadows" (not suitable for The Captain though)

Are superhero films as broad a genre as science fiction do you think?

Date: 2018-03-26 06:46 pm (UTC)I have grown rather bored of superhero movies that are trying to be serious. I haven't bothered with many of the recent DC ones (Batman vs Superman or Justice League), because they all looked far too serious and dull.
Whereas Guardians of the Galaxy, the last Thor movie, and Spider-Man Homecoming were all silly entertainment, with enough heart to keep me engaged.
I reckon that, in some ways, "Superhero" is a subgenre of science fiction. And that it can be pretty broad (you can tell a lot of different stories with superheroes) it's not as broad as Science Fiction. When it starts to get really broad you end up with things like Guardians of the Galaxy which aren't really superhero movies.

And I could do with some more bonkers fun.
