On EURef Margins

I am currently undecided whether I would prefer an AVRef size win by Remain  (thus burying any prospect of the UK leaving the EU and taking Scotland with it for forever) or a closer  Indyref level of Remainitude with the prospect of the Tories going pure dead mental over the issue for a generation and launching a party destroying civil war.

To be honest, at this point the UK voting to leave the EU, realising over the following ten years that it's made a horrible mistake, and being readmitted as a normal member of the EU, without its special privileges, would make me happy. It would not be ideal in the short term. But in the long term it might actually be the best thing all round.

I guess that depends on where one stands on Scottish Independence. Personally, as someone who tends in favour it wouldn't bother me much and it is perhaps one of the most concrete examples of the sort of mind set adjustment that would come about from leaving the EU and realising that the UK is no longer a massive world power.

There is something in that. I do feel that many of our problems as a nation are wrapped up in not really adjusting to our post-Imperial status and a goodly dose of reality might be good for us.

But it would be rough for the period between leaving and going back in.
