Some memeage - I do like a good meme.

1. How many jobs have you had, and which was your favourite?

I have had the following jobs.

Intern (Unpaid) for a Labour MP at Westminster
Intern (Paid) for the Legal Director of an Oil Services firm.
Secretary to a Social Work team leader
Financial Administrator for Aberdeenshire Council Education Department
Sales Assistant in a wine merchants.
Financial Administrator in an Oil Services firm
Accountancy Trainee for a large Life Assurance company
Head of Finance for a small Archaeological Consultancy firm
Finance Systems Project Manager at a Heritage National Charity
Accountant at an International Energy company
Regulatory Analyst at an Internal Energy Company
Finance Business Partner at Holyrood

And I am shortly about to start as the accountant for a software company.

I think my favourite job overall was Head of Finance at the Archaeological Consultancy firm but I chose My Lovely Wife over the job and I’ve never regretted that decision for a second.

2. When did you first connect to other people via computers?

Including email, when I started as a trainee at the Life Assurance company and would chat to friendly colleagues by email.

3. Were/are you on AOL? Compuserve? LJ? Dreamwidth? A Listserv? Other?

I’m on LJ. Or am I?

4. If you went to college, does your major match your career/current job?

No, not my undergraduate degree. I read Law. Excellent training for thinking but it’s taken a while to break myself of seeing every conversation as a debate.

5. Have you had a mammogram? Colonoscopy?

Neither. Certainly not at the same time.

6. When did you get your first cell phone? What was it like? (Did it have a screen? Could you text? Was it a brick or flip?)

I got my first mobile phone about 12 years ago. It was a Nokia, very rugged and came in a nice green-blue colour. I could text. I liked it. I’ve had my current mobile number since just after I met MLW.

7. When did your family first acquire a colour TV?

We’ve had a colour TV for as long as I can remember, so sometime in the early 1970’s.

8. When did your family acquire a second TV?

We’ve had a second TV since we got the colour one. However, my mum was very much against TV so for large parts of my childhood we didn’t watch TV. I was once given a detention for not completing my maths homework of charting how much TV we watched in a week. My maths teacher refused to believe I had watched none.

I’ve just recently re-acquired a second TV. I can now watch Netflix in bed.

9. Did you ever own “designer jeans”?

Yes, I had some Levi’s at some point. Now I buy them in Sainsbury. Jeans, not Levi’s. They wear out too quickly for me to buy Levi’s. I have chunky thighs.

10. Have you ever been to a disco?

Yes. I am justly famed for my dancing. Once likened to Michael Stipe having an epileptic fit in a straight-jacket my dancing still forms the basis of several women’s favourite sexual fantasy.

11. How many places (towns, states, countries) have you lived in?

Many. Lots. Lets see

Birmingham
Aberdeen
Stonehaven
Adelaide
Darwin
Walgett (Don’t GO!!)
Townsville
Aberdeen
Swindon
Edinburgh

Between the ages of 10 and 20 I attended 10 different educational establishments. None of these were a girls’ boarding school despite applying several times.

12. Have any of your contemporary friends died? (ie: people more or less you age.)

Yes. A close friend of MLW. It is very sad. He was a lovely, lovely man who just wanted to find a lovely woman whom he could love and have children with and he died of cancer a few years ago.

13. Are your parents still living?

All of my parents are still living. In fact my dad is getting married in a few months time and my mum is spending some of the money she inherited from my Evil Grandma to go travelling round the world having adventures.

Both of my step-mothers, (past and future) are still alive. I’m pretty sure someone would have told me if my step-dad had died, although, to give him his full due, if you asked him if he were alive he’d probably get the answer wrong.

14. Do you have any gray hairs?

I do. They tend to become more noticeable when my hair in longer.

15. Did you or your family own a Betamax?

I don’t think so.

16. How did you spend New Year’s Eve 1999/2000?

I can’t remember. There was probably champagne and whisky but that doesn’t narrow it down much.

I am one of those people who quietly thinks to myself that the 99-00 boundary was not the change of the millennium and then goes on to wonder why it is that, as an atheist I know more about church history than many Christians.

I used to be the sort of person who would say this outloud.

17. What’s the oldest article of clothing you still wear?

Fucked if I know.

18. Do you eat your vegetables?

Yes and also my son’s vegetables if he is not looking.

I like vegetables. Peas are probably my favourite. Although they always remind me of Edwina Curry.

19. Are the privileges of adulthood worth the responsibilities?

I have been responsible all of my life. Ever since my mother fled my father with four children under ten I have been responsible. Adulthood has, so far, just given me the opportunity to acquire better tools for fulfilling my responsibilities. I am looking forward to not being as responsible in the future as I have been in the past.

20. Do you feel like an adult?

Yes, and I have done since I was a boy.

21. Is youth wasted on the young?

Depends a lot on what one means by youth.

If one means the physical elements of general good health and vigour then I am actually looking forward to a period in human history where general health improvements and specific medical technologies mean that youthful vigour is available to the relatively old.

If one means the mental aspect of things being new and exciting, of coming into growing self-reliance and potency and the folly of experience then I see no way that it could be shared by anyone other than the young.

One (old) person’s youthful indolence is another (young) person’s brain growing.

Your thoughts on having studied Law are much the same as mine.

Your dancing doesn't sound as good, though.

My dancing is an awe inspiring force of nature. Strong women have become weak at the knees as a result of dancing with me.

Well, near me.

In the same room as me.

I have acquired back-up dancers in the course of "Addicted To Love".
