For this narrow case it might that the choice is between doing the improv that I really want to do whilst being in charge or not doing the improv that I want to do. Not sure how much I'd value the gain vs loss of having to be in charge in order to do the improv that I want. Difficult to tell until I've a) had some time off being in charge of things, b) seen how I feel about doing improv at all.

But I take your general point and I'm paying attention to it.
