I should definitely look into the self-adhesive aluminium strips! I made masks with pipe-cleaner nose wires but it turns out pipe cleaners don't take well to repeated machine washing. (Also, if you stick a pipe cleaner under your varifocals they get misaligned and you can't see anything even if your glasses aren't steamed up.)
