Five things on a Friday make a post.

1) The Festival continues in Edinburgh. MLW and I are going to interact with it tonight as part of my birthday celebrations. We're going to see a play called Six, about the husband of Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boylen, Jane Seymore, Anne of Cleaves, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr - apparantly all the same bloke, and an Irish sketch comedy trio called Foil, Hog and Arms. There may well be beer and perhaps some food.

I have been to the book festival to see some authors that the Captain likes. MLW drew a picture. I bought plenty of books from the bookshop, about strategy, economics, Catalonia and Scots poetry.

Generally speaking the city seems busier than ever. There is talk of tourist taxes and Air BnB licencing and what not.

I wonder what innovative ways there might be to spread the tourist load out around different parts of Edinburgh, different parts of Scotland and different times. It seems less than awesome that everyone seems to come to the Royal Mile in August.

2) I need to find a new way of controlling the electrical heating in the cottage. Mostly I need to be able to turn it on and off remotely so that we can turn the heating off in winter but still turn it back on if we get a weekend booking or want to use it ourselves. Any suggestions gratefully received.

3) I am off to the GP on Monday. Mostly this is to renew my meds for depression and to have a chat with her about how I make sure I have a decent stockpile of meds laid in by mid-March. I also need to ask her about my finger which has been a bit numb and tingly for a fortnight or so. A bit like the feeling you might get if you jammed your fingertip in a door or the lack of sensation you get if you have glue on your fingertip.

4) I've been feeling a bit lacking in energy this week. Most noticiable at the gym on Tuesday and the office yesterday. Not sure what, if anything, is going on. I shall use it as an excuse this weekend to eat plenty of red meat and drink stout.

5) Australia, land of my step-fathers, has a new Prime Minister. His name is Scott Morrison which makes him sound like an unsuccessful merger of two supermarket chains. He looks less like a potato than might be expected by news reports earlier this week about Turnbull's likely successor. Perhaps there is hope for the world after all. Bearing in mind that I live in the UK I don't think it's too much of an exageration to say that the Australian Liberal Party gives politics a bad name. Not just the Liberal Party. You have to go back to John Howard I think to find an Australian PM who has served a full term of Parliament as PM.
