On Friday Fives for 30th Match
Mar. 30th, 2018 04:32 pm1)This Fringe my drama group are putting on Much Ado About Nothing. I went to the read through on Wednesday. However, we had more attendees than parts, so I didn't get to read anything. The director intends to age up Benedick and Beatrice to their 50's. I can probably pass for 50 and I'd be tempted to play Benedick. It is one of my favourate plays.
2) Our American friend has gone on to the rest of her tour and left us a most charming thank you card with a sketch of the Jefferson Monument framed by cherry blossom. She and my daughter took some strawberries and cream up to the Salisbury Crags to watch the sunset. Such is the folly and wisdom of youth. They seem to have gotten on well. I admit that by about 9pm I was a little worried about what had happened to them, although I reckoned that if they were in some sort of trouble they'd have phoned and I had given them £20 to go to the pub.
3) I went to a curriculum briefing at the Captain's school on reading (mostly) and also (a very little bit) on Religious and Moral Education. I think I understand how the school is teaching reading and it seems like a sound method to me. There's lots to it. The Captain's reading is coming on well. I read the new RME policy and mostly I can support it. It's pretty secular with a bias towards Christianity and a bit of a gap when addressing the structures and theories of atheism, agnosticism and humanism. Which is about what I'd expect for a progressive middle class school in Edinburgh. I think I might respond and ask why RME doesn't include much on the British druids, the Norse pantheon or the Greek and Roman pantheons and, inter alia, the fact that nobody adheres to these religions any more.
4) Games this week included Scrimish, a sort of card battle game and Citadels which is a cross betweeen Machi Koro and Love Letter. I enjoyed Citadels. Scimish I quite like the fact that it's a team vs team game.
5) I'm going to try my hand at making some sausage rolls for the Dad's Breakfast Club tomorrow. The recipe looks simple enough to do in the morning before the Captain's football.
