Very large multi-member constituencies elected using the d'Hondt closed party list system for Europen elections vs small single member constituencies elected using Single Member Plularity (aka First Past the Post) for Westminster.

It makes a big difference (see UKIP).

In Scotland we use a different election system for every type of election.

STV for local elections.

Mixed-Member Proportionally for Holyrood.

D'Hondt for Euros and

Single Member Plurality for Westminster.
