On Bruce and Craig

Strictly is looking a little like a pantomime this year. More so than usual.

I think Bruce is looking at his last season of Strictly. His timing is poor. I’m genuinely not sure he knows what he’s doing all of the time. His health and ability to compere the show are becoming a bit of story in their own right. An unwelcome distraction. He was in his time an excellent light entertainment host. Even a few years ago he was very good.  I think his time has passed. The man has worked long and hard at his career and I would rather see it end this year whilst he can, just about, still deliver,  rather than see him soldier on a season or so longer and his career end when he pisses himself on live television.

Tess looked more relaxed than I’ve seen her look in a while.

I’m disappoined with Revel-Horward. In the past I’ve respected his opinions and the bluntness with which he delivered them. Usually his critisism is well founded and constructive. If you listened to it and did something about it you improved and he would often notice this and comment on it.

This weekend he seemed viscous and drowned the contestents in a slew of, what appeared to me to be quite technical points. I’m not saying he was wrong, just that he put the boot in and seemed to enjoy doing so. Whilst it is inevitable that on a judging panel one of the judges will be strict and blunt I don’t want the show to revolve around Revel-Horward being nasty to people.

So far, I see a risk that this year the main focus will be whether someone hits Craig before Bruce falls over.

I more or less agree with you. I thought the stuff Craig was coming up with was technical crap. I think Dahcey did actually swipe him at one point, so I think now we only have to wait for Bruce to fall over...

In my predictably shallow way, I thought Tess looked fab.

Tess who?

Susanna is who you want to be watching.

Indeed! She's gorgeous, isn't she?

(The fact that she looks a little like Ivanova never hurts either, or maybe it's just me that sees a resemblance there.)

I never got into Babylon Five. Strangely.

I think there is a bit of a resemblance there.

Having spent the last hour comparing photographs of the two of them I’m pretty confident that I can no longer tell the difference.

Seriously, I think there are similarities. Strong chin and cheeks bones, broad high forhead, long dark hair, usually worn in a tight, professional style, almond eyes, full sensual lips. I wouldn’t mistake them for sisters but I think descriptions of them would read nearly identically.

Slow Monday, is it? ;)

I love Babylon 5 but you do have to persevere through chunks of the 1st season which are pretty pants but important to the story.

Very slow Monday. So slow it's on the verge of becoming Sunday again.

I'll keep an eye out for B5 on Netflix.

Ahh, Sunday. A day I actually got sleep. I remember sleep...

(The Boy is on early shifts at the hospital this week, which involve him getting up at 5.30 am. I'm now missing the noisy Bristol hotel because it was still quieter than my husband getting ready in the morning in our high ceiling-ed small flat with no carpets.)

Sleep, how I'm missing you and wishing you were here.

I had to push Julie through the first 2/3 of season one. And then took over and dragged me through the rest of it at high speed, demanding more all the way.

Sorry I went to have a look at this Tess person you seem to think exists and got distracted by Susanna.

Golly!

I'm in a very happy place with Strictly. It seems to me that there are five possible winners - Sophie, Natalie, Ashley, Abbey and Susanna - and I like all of them.

[identity profile] danieldwilliam.livejournal.com 2013-10-17 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah – happy with any of them. Not that sold on Abbey. Not anti – she just not in my top 15 this year.

I think it’s a pretty open contest this year – between those five. Although I think there are one or two others who might knock one of them out in a cup tie.

Dave is also providing good entertainment. I especially love how pompous, self-righteous and grumpy Craig gets when someone like Dave keeps finishing bottom and getting voted through.

I have to admit her voice annoys me, but I think she has a very sweet nature.

Also Ros says that her husband cheated on her in a public and egregious way, so that puts me on we team.

[identity profile] danieldwilliam.livejournal.com 2013-10-17 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
Did he? That is a shame. There is a lot of it about I think in those circles.

Why does that make your more well disposed towards her?

I found the dancing for Liverpool business last week a bit off putting.

[identity profile] widgetfox.livejournal.com 2013-10-17 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
I think love week with fourteen contestants is problematic - you have to find some love themes that are not family or partners, or it gets very dull.

[identity profile] danieldwilliam.livejournal.com 2013-10-17 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
Fair point.

I fear I may be talking myself into disliking her.

[identity profile] widgetfox.livejournal.com 2013-10-17 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
It's an option. I don't know how well it will serve you.

I actually would not back her to win - I think that both Sophie and Natalie are better and Ashley and Susanna will be more popular. But she is a contender and I think she will go some way. There is also good chemistry between her and Aljaz, which is always popular.

[identity profile] danieldwilliam.livejournal.com 2013-10-17 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
I have no particular need to dislike her. She seems amiable enough even if I don’t warm to her. I don’t require a villan to enhance my enjoyment of the contest.

I’d rather not persuade myself into a dislike of her when what I think is that I’m indifferent towards her.

I think of the five you have put forward as potential winners she’s the least likely to win.

[identity profile] widgetfox.livejournal.com 2013-10-17 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
I agree given existing data, but it is very early.

I would not have picked Louis Smith as a winner at this stage in 2012.

[identity profile] danieldwilliam.livejournal.com 2013-10-17 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
No - I'd have picked Denise Van Outen.

[identity profile] widgetfox.livejournal.com 2013-10-17 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, at this stage I probably would have as well. Lisa Riley was also still a contender.

I’m trading on a combination of asset classes and relative dancing ability.

I think she’d have to be a markedly better dancer to get over what I think are the limitations in her asset class.

So long as Susanna gets to the final, I’m content.

[identity profile] widgetfox.livejournal.com 2013-10-17 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
I think there is a good chance she will.

Right now if I had to pick a winner, I would pick Sophie. I think she and Natalie are in a different class from the rest - Natalie is the better, but not by so much that it shows - and I think she'll get the votes. But there's still a lot to play for. Ashley is very cute and voters will like him.

(Your friend Josh thinks it is hysterical that his sons are called Mason and Buddy, which are the names of the dogs where Marcus and Livs live.)
