On Cultural Assumptions, Christmas, Bad News and Peshawar

I came across a peculiar comment today about the massacre at the school in Pakistan.

“Imagine you’re one of the parents and you get a phone call in the middle of the day, telling you that your child has been killed at that school. How do you feel? A week before Christmas you find out your children have been murdered. How do you feel?”

I’m not sure there is any good way to point out that Christmas is probably not a big deal for most of the citizens of Peshawar, so I didn’t.

And I am reminded of how horrible it was sitting in a pub with two friends from Dunblane when the new started coming in of the Dunblane school shooting.

I know I'm not a Christian either but seriously, who thinks 'a week before Christmas' is a big factor when your children have been murdered??

Also, I'm not sure proximity to Christmas makes it worse in any way. 'At what time of year would you prefer your children to be massacred?'
