On Returning Again to Rugby

First session back at rugby this Sunday.

Lovely day for it. Sunny and stiller than Saturday.

Session was based around games of touch and some handling drills.

Good effort by the kids. They were pretty good at organising themselves when playing touch. Less unfit than I feared they would be after 3 months off.

I'm glad things are restarting. Must be nice to get things back up and running.

It is. The kids have had from March 2020 to August 2020 and then again from December 2020 to March 2021 off and quite a lot of November and December the pitches were unplayable because of wet weather. So not a lot of rugby for them.

And not a lot of other social exercise either. School soccer hasn't restarted since March 2020.

So the Captain's gone from rugby twice a week, soccer twice a week, parkour, Park Run (and I think something else involving moving) and school PE to just school PE.

And all of the other kids will have had similar reductions in physical activity and socialising with their friends or teammates.

And I've missed the coaching and spending time with the boys. They are a nice bunch.

Yeah, there were finally kids doing football training on the playing field over the road on Sunday and it was nice to see them being able to.

Do you know if they were a school team or a club team? And what age roughly?

The Captain's primary school team seems badly impacted by the SFA's relative lack of interest in primary school participation football.

I don't, I'm afraid. They were primary age though, split into 2 groups, which could well have been older and younger kids. The group we walked past were probably about 7 or 8 ish I would guess but I am not the best judge of children's ages.

That bodes well for the school football restarting soonish.
