Full of Kindley Goodness

I am very much enjoying my Kindle. I’m reading a lot on it and finding it very easy to use, easy on the eye to read on for a long time and I’ve already saved the purchase price in free books.

My one complaint about it is that in low light (such as when I’m reading in bed but MLW has switched her light off) is that it’s a little harder to read than paper. Not by much but noticeably so.

I need to buy a cover for it.

I want something that is light. Why have a very light reading device and then weigh it down with a fancy cover.

I want something that open like a book rather than a sleeve. I can see me dropping the thing taking it out of the sleeve. Something that opened like a journalists notepad would be ideal I think.

I also want a small light – so I can read in bed without disturbing MLW.

I don't want a leather look case if I can avoid it. I think if I'm going to have a 21st century piece of consumer electronics I don't want to dress it up as a faux piece of 16th century technology.

I think I’ve got a solution for the difficulty with lending books on a Kindle.

I could have two – one to use myself and one to lend.

Well my solution wouldn't work then - I bought a £15 leather cover which opens like a book.

I bought a Moleskine cover for my iPad - there is a Kindle version:

And finally, I love Decal Girl stickers (google Decal Girl). They don't give much protection, except against dirt and scratches, but they do mark your kindle out as unique.

Sharing books - you can let someone log into your account, and then they can read your library. They can then log out and go back to using their own account. A bit clunky, but it works.

Let me know if you get a light - I need one of them.

I'm not wholly against a book style cover - I'd quite like to be able to prop the Kindle up with a fold over journalist style case.

Good shout on the sharing.

That's a handsome looking cover but I think I want something that just covers the Kindle so the whole thing will still fit in the my jeans back pocket.

The back pocket thing? Don't do it. Eventually you'll break it. I did.

I presume by sitting on it in a fit of absent mindedness.

Yikes and Jackers.

That's the one. Even a slight flex is enough to bork the screen.

Sadly, I cannot advise you, as I went for a faux-leather book-shaped one, that comes with a light attached to it.

I panicked and bought a black leather notebook style one with a magnetic clasp.

It’s okay. It looks nice. It’s quite light. It doesn’t look like a pretend book. I can use the machine fine with it on.

I hunted round a few shops and couldn’t find one that met my criteria and I was a bit worried that the machine would get scratched so I bought the first one that came to hand that was okay.

What surprised me was how hard it was going to be to find a clip on light in a shop.

Yeah, I went online, so I could get one I liked that wasn't a fortune. £15 in the end, rather than more than £30 if I'd bought a cover in Smiths.

Which is what I should have done - but as I say - I panicked a bit after f4f3 told me how he'd broken his by sitting on it.
