This is true.

He was killed by some of his own people and it's possible but unlikely that they were just acting on their own behalf and not acting on orders from their own leaders (which would make this a plain murder rather than an extra judicial execution I think.)

But I am noting that our leaders aren't making much of the lack of a trial and seem to be approving of the convenient extra-judical death of an enemy.
