And another thing while I'm giving semi-random friends-of-friends the benefit of my views: I can see why lots of pro-Ukrainian people are cheering Ukrainian armed forces using civilian cars and trucks to get around, and also why they are horrified when the Russians open fire on ordinary civilians in ordinary vehicles. Both actions fall short of the principle of distinction between combatants and non-combatants required by international humanitarian law/Geneva Conventions and Protocols, and you can kind of see how the importance is there on both sides.
(Not that I expect this to end up being adjudicated as being covered by the Geneva Conventions, unless there is a total regime collapse in Russia.)
